Looking back on 2023

With the adoption of the KMGBF agreement in December 2022, the year 2023 began on an enthusiastic and encouraging note, eager to see an ambitious and measurable agreement come to life and result in concrete achievements. 

This year has been marked by a number of important events for. the international biodiversity community.

During the summer, we held a series of events with our Latin American partners, such as the virtual dialogues where various stakeholders met to discuss mainstreaming & innovative governance of biodiversity. We followed up with the second edition of the African Youth Biodiversity Forum in September, focusing on the empowerment of young voices for a greater impact on Biodiversity preservation.

October was marked by the High Seas Treaty Symposium, focusing on the protection of biodiversity and marine ecosystems in areas beyond national jurisdiction, right after the signature of the BBNJ by 67 countries, in the margins of the UN High Level week. In November a multi-sectoral Dialogue brought together high-level representatives in Latin American and Caribbean countries to explore biodiversity challenges & opportunities in the region.

New Year – New ambitions, new resolutions, new strengths 

As the new year arrives, we are full of hope and enthusiasm, and intend to gather momentum this year, with only a few months to go until COP16.

We would like to thank all our partners and friends, our technical and scientific experts for their work, and all our readers and subscribers for their presence and commitment.
