Rampant inequality, a rapidly changing climate and biodiversity loss are reaching a critical point of no return, with concurrent disasters being a daily reminder of what lies ahead. A joint effort between governments, corporations, and the public is needed to build a nature-positive future that addresses our planetary crisis.
As with past editions, the Hub’s ambition is to bring together governments, civil society, academia and the private sector to establish a dialogue and enable the sharing of practical knowledge and solutions. The event aims to promote collaboration and partnerships, and to help drive the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
3 days, 3 themes
The 2023 edition will focus on three main themes:
- Preserving our planetary safety net: Identifying leverage points to preserve a planetary safety net and deliver on the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework;
- Delivering a nature-positive economy: Transforming political, social, financial, and economic systems to create incentives for an economy that accounts for nature’s values; and
- Promoting a whole of society approach for nature: Fostering inclusive collaboration and engagement to deliver on our shared responsibility to protect, restore, and manage nature.
In a 3-day virtual program, numerous online-events will gather biodiversity champions, including political and corporate leaders, civil society representatives, world’s youth mobilizers, local authorities and experienced specialists. These thematic journeys will provide a great opportunity to delve deep into specialist topics, practical solutions and ambitious, transformative actions for nature.
The Post-2020 Biodiversity Framework – EU support is pleased to once again partner with the event. This year the project will have the floor on Day 3, at the session titled “All in for Nature: Engaging Everyone”. Precisely, the segment “The Next Generation, Now!” (3:10-4:00 pm GMT-5) will focus on the role of youth in taking action on nature : a great occasion to showcase African youth’s engagement following on a recent side-event we co-organized by GYBN Africa at SBSSTA25 in Nairobi.
In a dedicated virtual booth, the project will also feature various publications and videos to raise awareness on key KMGBF targets and topics. Interested readers and viewers will be able to access the booth at any time and share its content with their partners, friends, communities to get a better understanding of some crucial concepts to deliver on the overall KMGBF vision of living in harmony with nature by 2030.
