In 2023, the Costa Rican National System of Conservation Areas (SINAC) conducted a comprehensive review and update of its prioritisation of coastal-marine consvervation sites. During this process, they successfully transformed their approach with the collaborative support of academia, government agencies, NGOs
and the private sector, including fisheries and tourism. The country is committed to safeguarding the most representative marine biodiversity areas and improving the sustainable management of its resources.
