Workshop in Costa Rica to address GBF Target 3

One month after the adoption of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, a workshop brought together representatives of the State sector, civil society, NGOs, and academy to agree upon the identification of main marine conservation sites and goals for Costa Rica. More here

World governments are gathering this week at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York until the 3rd of March for the resumed 5th negotiating conference (IGCFinal) to hopefully conclude discussions for a brand new global accord meant to safeguard marine life on the high seas. More here

In 2012, the United Nations General Assembly declared March 21 as International Day of Forests to commemorate and promote awareness of the value of all types of forests. Countries are encouraged to organize activities involving forests and trees on a local, national, and worldwide scale, such as tree planting campaigns. More here

World Migratory Bird Day

May 13

The 2023 World Migratory Bird Day campaign will highlight the importance of water for migratory birds and identify key actions for protecting water resources and aquatic ecosystems. The two peak days of World Migratory Bird Day 2023 will be 13 May and 14 October, reflecting the cyclical nature of bird migration with varying migration periods in the northern and southern hemispheres. World Bee Day: Bee Engaged!

Beekeeping events are held on this day to educate the general public about the value of bees and beekeeping. There is a special emphasis on the role of bees as pollinators and how they contribute to the restoration of forest cover. Because bee populations are under threat, World Bee Day educates people on ways to safeguard bees and other pollinators. More here

64th GEF Council Meeting – Plans for game-changing biodiversity fund, Brasilia

The Council, the GEF’s main governing body, is made up of 32 members elected by GEF member countries’ constituencies. The Council, which meets twice a year, creates, approves, and assesses GEF-financed operational policies and programs. It also examines and approves the work program, reaching consensus on decisions.
