description
Ecosystem restoration can address environmental and socioeconomic aspects simultaneously, but only if it integrates local ecosystem’s needs and features in restoration plans, providing information to support decision-makers for its effective implementation. Targets 2, 7, 11 of the Biodiversity Plan (GBF) particularly address effective restoration of degraded ecosystems.
Ecological restoration of ecosystems and pollution reduction are central for improving the degraded ecosystem’s health, nature’s contributions to people, including ecosystem functions and services and the well-being of local communities. It is also a crucial element of liability and inter-generational equity.
We support scientifically-based spatial planning for the periodization of restoration sites with the active inclusion of local and other stakeholders in decision making and implementation.
We transfer knowledge on the potential for socioeconomic, biodiversity and climate benefits of effective ecological restoration.
