South African Youth Biodiversity Network Consultation Meeting

Analyzing and discussing the updated zero draft with South African Youth!
On March 27th 2021, the South African Youth Biodiversity Network (SAYBN) will organize a consultation meeting focusing on the updated zero draft of the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework.


2020 marked the end of the 2010-2020 Strategic Plan of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), and the updated zero-draft of the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework now includes goals and targets that are still under consultation.

SAYBN will host a virtual consultation meeting on the updated-zero draft of thePost-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, to gather youth perspectives and priorities on the threedifferent goals and 20 targets outlined in the Updated Zero draft. This meeting will take place on the27th of March 2021 through the zoom platform. South African youth interested in joining the meeting can do so through the application form here.

The youth’s voices and perspectives will form part of SAYBN’s position paper which will be submitted torelevant stakeholders, including the GYBN and the Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries.The event will also include a panel discussion on how Intergenerational equity can be reflected in thePost-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework.

We are looking forward to stimulating discussions. We hope that the consultation will inspire and motivateSouth African youth to participate in biodiversity policies and recognize the power of young people unitedfor a cause to influence change. Our goal is to foster collaborations among youth-led organizations so thatthey can work together to implement South Africa’s National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans(NBSAPs).” Keletso Malepe, Chapter Coordinator at SAYBN.

The consultation meeting will be on March 27th 2021 (09:00am till 15:00pm SA time).
