| TRANSFORMATIVE ACTIONS At the core of the Post-2020 Biodiversity Framework - EU Support Project vision |
| |
Dear Partners and Friends, CBD COP16 in Colombia concluded on November 2nd. Today, we are proud to look back at the last two weeks where the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) was at the heart of discussions and events. The official close of COP16 marks not only the end of a historical conference but also the conclusion of the Post-2020 Biodiversity Framework - EU Support project. After six years of dedication, innovation, and collaboration with many partners, we look back with immense pride at the progress we have achieved together in advancing the KMGBF goals and targets. The journey was surely inspiring and rewarding.

| Highlights of COP16 and Our Journey |
| |
During COP16, our project had the honour of coordinating the activities of the EU Pavilion, showcasing Europe’s concrete contributions to the KMGBF and reinforcing its commitment to global biodiversity goals. The EU Pavilion provided a platform to present pioneering strategies and actions, setting the stage for ambitious implementation efforts and encouraging “Peace with Nature” on an international scale. In collaboration with AL Invest Verde, Amazonia+, Euroclima, and Grandes Bosques de Mesoamérica, the EU Pavilion hosted close to 70 engaging sessions, bringing together high-level officials, experts, practitioners, and participants from all over the world. This dynamic line-up highlighted the EU’s leadership and support for impactful biodiversity efforts in different geographies sparking further cooperation and innovation.

|
| A platform for Unity and Collaboration |
| |
During CBD-COP16 our Project hosted 18 transformative and dynamic events at the EU Pavilion but also at various venues, including official side-event locations, Place Québec, and the Green Zone in Cali. These sessions set the stage for lively, direct and fruitful conversations on addressing biodiversity loss and building a sustainable, nature-positive future. They presented great occasions to unite voices from government, civil society, scientific communities, and beyond. These gatherings facilitated open, constructive exchanges and offered a platform for participants to share diverse perspectives, creating a strong sense of collective purpose for the same goal: make Peace with Nature.
|
| Emphasizing Practical Solutions and Best Practices |
| |
Over the past six years, our focus has remained on practical, actionable solutions to the biodiversity crisis. COP16 exemplified this, as our events highlighted transformative approaches, tools, and policies to protect habitats, support communities, and restore ecosystems. Through collaboration with a broad range of stakeholders—including national governments (such as Costa Rica, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Brazil, Uganda, and Morocco), cities, regions, subnational and local governments, civil society, academia, and the private sector - these strategies will continue to guide global efforts to safeguard biodiversity, leaving a lasting legacy for future action.
|
| Strengthening the Whole-of-Society’s Commitment to Nature |
| |
We are inspired by the growing dedication to biodiversity we’ve seen from all parts of society. Our sessions brought together a diversity of voices—from government and SNLG representatives, youth, IPLCs, women, business and finance sectors, to scientists and civil society representatives from across the globe. Each session was an opportunity to unite around a shared purpose: halting biodiversity loss and restoring ecosystems. By encouraging open dialogue and exchange, we forged partnerships and empowered participants to contribute ideas and experiences toward meaningful solutions.
|
| Concluding with Pride and Optimism for the Future |
| |
As we reach the end of our project’s journey, we reflect on our common accomplishments. While our project is about to conclude, the work we started is only beginning, with a strong foundation in place for ongoing efforts to restore and protect biodiversity worldwide and reach the KMGBF goals and targets by 2030.
|
We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone at the European Commission, particularly the teams at DG International Partnerships and DG Environment, whose support and collaboration have been instrumental to the success of this impactful journey since 2018. We also wish to acknowledge Expertise France, the French implementation agency, for its continued support and guidance. The dedication and passion of all our partners have been essential to our achievements, and as we close this chapter, we look forward with optimism. Together, we have laid the groundwork for a shared vision—a world where nature and humanity can flourish in harmony. The journey continues, and we look forward to seeing the fruits of the seeds we’ve planted together. Thank you for your partnership, support, and shared commitment to biodiversity.
