| 22 September, UN General Assembly sending strong signal to step up countries ambitions Key announcements were made at the Transformative Action for Nature and People high-level event organized by UNDP on the margins of the 76th UN General Assembly which brought together more than 20 Heads of State and Government, as well as Indigenous community leaders and leaders from the worlds of finance, philanthropy and civil society to commit to momentous action for nature, climate and people. | 11-15 October, CBD COP15 Part 1 "A renewed sense of optimism" The first part of the UN Biodiversity Conference (COP15) took place from 11 to 15 October 2021 with a High-Level Segment bringing Parties to the CBD together to build momentum for a robust and transformative post-2020 global biodiversity framework. | 18 August, Lead the Green Change! The European Union in India launched a nation-wide campaign for Nature Focused on awareness-raising, the private sector, climate and health in India, the initiative under the “Biodiversity means LIFE – Green is living in harmony with Nature” umbrella highlighted the role of biodiversity across sectors and for sustainable development. Launched in April 2021, Lead the Green Change offers a wide variety of activities on the path to CBD COP15. It has been holding activities throughout the preparatory process to CBD COP15 and offering various formats, facilities and tools to engage with stakeholders willing to promote high ambition and transformative change for biodiversity. | 9 July, Outcomes of the Edinburgh Process on the role of subnational governments and local authorities in the post 2020 global biodiversity framework With the support of the Post 20202 Biodiversity Framework - EU support project, the Government of Scotland, ICLEI and the CBD Secretariat organized this China virtual dialogue (webinar) for the local and subnational governments, national ministries and partner organizations with the aim to exchange the perspective on the development of GBF via the Edinburgh Process, share the actions and best practices of pioneer cities and regions, and deliberate on the next steps of collaboration towards CBD COP15 Part 1 and beyond. | 5-16 April, IUCN Global Youth Summit From April 5th to 16th, IUCN hosted multiple virtual youth-led interactive workshops in thematic tracks, intergenerational dialogues, networking opportunities, body awareness sessions, and much more. Gathering over 10 000 participants, including international high level officers, NGOs, civil society organizations, cities and youth groups led by GYBN, the Summit shaped the Outcome Statement to the IUCN Members’ Assembly at the IUCN Congress. | 13 April, Agri-Food Systems webinar Exploring pathways for convergence between the agri-food systems and biodiversity agendas, the webinar represented an original moment to bring together two communities for common ambitions in the pivotal year of 2021. As preparatory work for CBD COP15 and the UN Food Systems Summit is under way, this event highlighted how this unprecedented opportunity had the potential to lead to more inclusive, effective and coordinated solutions that positively impact nature, climate, food security and health.
