RESOURCE MOBILIZATION FOR BIODIVERSITY!
Hosted on 31 March 2021, the webinar, involving a high-level panel, opened the space to discuss how to scale-up finance for biodiversity and achieve a better alignment of investments and policies with the combined needs of nature and people. More than 270 participants joined this webinar, which provided valuable insights from public and private sectors on investments for biodiversity. “The SBI debate is not where it should be. It is very much about the small Official Development Assistance category. What we have done today is bringing the debate where it should be. From April 5th to 16th, IUCN is hosting multiple virtual youth-led interactive workshops in thematic tracks, intergenerational dialogues, networking opportunities, body awareness sessions, and much more. Gathering over 10 000 participants, including international high level officers, NGOs, civil society organizations, cities and youth groups led by GYBN, the Summit is shaping the Outcome Statement to the IUCN Members’ Assembly at the IUCN Congress. The Post-2020 Biodiversity Framework – EU Support will host a webinar on 13 April 2021 (1p.m CET time), with the participation of Dr. Agnès Kalibata, UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for the Food Systems Summit, to explore pathways for convergence between the agri-food systems and biodiversity agendas, in light of CBD COP15 and the UN Food Systems Summit. Mainstreaming webinar: Operationalizing mainstreaming in and of the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework
Held on April 6th and 7th, this online informal workshop will gather negotiators and experts to take stock of mainstreaming discussions on the road to CBD COP15 and identify policy options that could help advance the mainstreaming agenda in CBD COP15 decisions and other processes, in order to support the implementation of post-2020 biodiversity goals and targets.
ICLEI World Congress 2021 will be hosted by Malmö, Sweden on 12-16 April on a virtual format. Hundreds of local, regional and national governments, international agencies, representatives of the private sector, academics and researchers, community groups and other partners from around the world will come together virtually to steer the global sustainable development agenda by enhancing action taken in urban areas worldwide. 16-18 April, GYBN Kenyan Youth Consultation
The Kenyan Youth Biodiversity Network, a chapter of the Global Youth Biodiversity Network, seeks to ensure that youth voices are incorporated in the consultation process on the draft and raise achievable ambition of the framework. 21-23 April, Reinforcing integrated spatial planning policies and tools for biodiversity
Our project and IDDRI will hold a dialogue aiming at creating a space for discussion among stakeholders involved in the preparation of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework and experts, on best cases and lessons learnt on spatial planning. It will bring together CBD negotiators and experts from several countries.
April, Global Goals for Nature and Climate Series – EarthX (TBC)
The Global Goals for Nature and Climate Series will consist of two programs, which will explore dimensions of the Post-2020 Pavilion’s Call to Action for an Equitable, Carbon-Neutral, Nature-Positive World that was launched at the UN Biodiversity Summit in 2020. These two 60-minute TV programs are co-produced with earthx.org and will be televised the week of Earth Day, 2021, by Earthxtv.

12-25 May, Vertical Integration Dialogues with Local and Subnational Governments on the Post 2020 Biodiversity Framework
With the project support, ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability and its Cities Biodiversity Center (CBC) organizes a series of vertical integration dialogues across May and June 2021 with six selected partner countries, (South Africa, Peru, Colombia, Canada, China, Mexico) to facilitate information exchanges between local and subnational governments and the national government on key policy issues arising from the post-2020 global biodiversity framework.
22 May, International Biodiversity Day - We are part of the Solution
The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity organizes International Biodiversity Day 2021. From nature-based solutions to climate, health issues, food and water security, and sustainable livelihoods, biodiversity is the foundation upon which we can build back better.
