At the heart of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) Conference of the Parties (COP16), the EU Pavilion stood as a beacon of Europe’s commitment to reversing biodiversity loss, preserving ecosystems, and ensuring sustainable futures for all.
Located in the Blue Zone, from October 21 to November 1st, the EU Pavilion was open every day from 8am to 8pm. Through panel sessions, information points, and networking events, it showcased initiatives working towards ambitious implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and achieving Peace with Nature.

The EU Pavilion showcased transformative actions that enabled a concrete and ambitious implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. It also helped raise awareness and ensured a better understanding of its Targets, while highlighting the different actors working together to halt and reverse biodiversity loss.
Attendees were able to gain a deeper understanding of the pathways for change and share their achievements and challenges.

The EU Pavilion will showcase transformative actions that allow for a concrete and ambitious implementation of Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. It will also help raise awareness and ensure better understanding of its Targets, and showcase the different actors that are working together to halt and reverse biodiversity loss.

The programme implements actions in 12 countries in Latin America, where it articulates efforts in the public and private sectors, as well as for the promotion of intellectual property rights.

The programme focuses on improving the ability of Amazon basin countries to mitigate CO2 emissions and adapt to the effects of climate change, significantly reducing deforestation and forest degradation, and improving the protection of biodiversity.

The programme supports increased resilience to climate change of ecosystems and vulnerable communities in Latin America and the Caribbean, including women, youth, and indigenous populations, through the implementation of demand-driven actions based on country dialogues, as well as regional and multi-country actions, helping countries implementing their climate and biodiversity commitments. This contributes to climate change adaptation and mitigation, to the generation of green jobs, and addressing biodiversity loss in the region.

The project aims at increasing the resilience and sustainable use of the Great Forests of Mesoamerica with the participation of indigenous communities, civil society organisations, private sector, academia and governments.

The project’s ambition is to turn the concept of “transformative change” into concrete transformative actions, that help move from a strategic vision to operational and actionable changes. It focuses on the operationalisation of Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework to find concrete solutions that address issues related to climate change, economic and social development, mainstreaming biodiversity and embracing the whole of society approach in Latin America, Africa and Asia. The“transformative change approach” will be a key element of the Pavilion at COP16.
